It has become an incredibly popular platform over the four years and launched the careers of many internet stars. Twitter are yet to give an official reason for putting the stops on Vine, but surely it's no coincidence the story came alongside an announcement that it was cutting 9% of its workforce.
Vine cost Twitter just over £24m in 2012. On the whole, you would probably say that it was a good investment - Vine was huge when it launched, but it seems a shame to see it go.
So if producing six second video loops is your thing, you'd better get in quick if you want to keep making them before the app is discontinued. Fear not though, the website will remain live so you can still view and download all the loops that have gone before.
